My sweetie went to visit his mum for Mother's Day, so I went on a woodsy ramble with a friend of mine.
On the way in to the farm, we saw a deer, a bald eagle, and two wild turkeys. We visited a former homesite at the back of the farm. The wildflowers were in bloom everywhere...daisies and some dainty blue flowers I've never seen before.

We also saw fragrant Paulownia trees in bloom.

Later, we wandered down to the woods where we surprised a pair of deer which had been napping in a sunny clearing. It feels like a secret, magical place far from the world of man.

As we walked through the knee-high grass, my friend stepped on something with his boot and we heard a loud hiss. We look at each other, thinking, "Snakes!" My friend leaned down, laughed, and straightened up with a box turtle in his hands. The turtle gave us a very annoyed look. After moving the turtle gently to the side of the trail, we circled around the glade, taking in the ferns and vines. Few flowers bloom in this sheltered space, save for an ancient rosebush. I photographed one cobweb-covered fern. When my sweetie saw it, he pronounced it, "rigging for faeries". That made me smile.

On the way out of the farm, we startled a little blue heron and as we pulled into my driveway, one of the resident wild turkeys stalked across my yard.
