Day 11 - your siblings

I have two biological siblings.
Diane was born in 1967, three years before I was born.
She was my parents' first child and my mother trusted her doctor when he told her she was gaining too much weight. He put her on a strict diet. She followed it despite my dad begging her to eat more. She weighed less at 7 months pregnant that she had before she got pregnant.
She went into pre-term labour and gave birth to my sister two months early.
Diane lived for 8 hours before her lungs collapsed.
My gran told me she looked just like me as a baby - blonde hair and blue eyes.
My poor mother never saw her firstborn. Mum was recovering from an emergency c-section and was in hospital for over a week. They took my sister away and buried her without my mum ever getting to hold her. The 'wisdom' of the day was that it would help her move on.
It didn't.
To this day - over 40 years later - my mum is still quiet and withdrawn on April Fool's Day, my sister's birthday.
My other biological sister, Susan, was born 22 months after me.
When Susan was born, Mum told me I would need to look after her.
We were expected to share the same toys and interests.
It didn't work.
I am an introvert and loves animals and nature.
My sister is extrovert who loves fashion and makeup.
Now we're in our 40s and she lives 1,000 miles away. It's close enough for me.
We're friends on Facebook.
I have adopted people I consider to be siblings over the years.
The first was M, whom I met at the beginning of my sophomore year of high school. We've been friends ever since - over thirty years now - and I love him dearly.
