Redirected Weekend

We were supposed to go camping with Badger this weekend.
Half an hour after we left, Badger called us saying that her van wouldn't start.  She'd already spent more than a day playing van-Tetris and was in full Meltdown Mode.  So instead of driving 4 hours west, we headed north and ended up on her doorstep that afternoon.

We managed to have a good weekend in spite of the fact that all three of us had been looking forward to a weekend away from people and problems.  She planted flowers and sorted the minerals she'd collected on Thursday.  We spent an afternoon taking pictures in her back yard.  I also got to see lenticular clouds form over the windward side of Sharp Mountain for the first time.  Very, very cool.
Her sister and nephews came over in the evening and I practiced taking available-light photos of the boys.  (They were busy watching Lord of the Rings...)  Badger wondered to her sister why she'd been prevented from going camping this weekend.  Hollie cast her shells and came up with the answer that there was something going on at the farm and she wasn't supposed to be there.  That eased her mind a little.

We also collected missed presents from Yule: Badger gave me a handmade glass bead necklace with a trillium flower and a silk-and-wool wrap, courtesy of Darth Dave in Afghanistan.  For my upcoming birthday, I got small dangly earrings shaped like little twigs.

We also went to the health foods store, where I got a bar of lovely blueberry & lavender flavoured chocolate.

I wish we'd got more time to spend up there.
I miss seeing Badger when she isn't preoccupied and stressed.  *sigh*

Things at home are coming along slowly.

The Health Department is finally doing actual tests on our yard to determine grade and flow, checking the tanks for leaks and so forth.  But they've warned us that replacing our septic system will be Expensive.  Not looking forward to it at all.  We have no idea what it's going to cost.

Yesterday afternoon, we had a thunderstorm and a gorgeous thirty-second rainbow.

Garden update:  Echincea pallida and pink crinums are up in the raised bed.  *dances*
Lettuce is nearly ready for picking.

We're also not sure what's going on this weekend.  Some people want to play D&D.
Other kinds souls want to get together to celebrate my birthday...hopefully with Doctor Who and Red Dwarf!
